MASTER CHIEF LOU BOSWELL TRUST

In honor of Master Chief Yeoman Lou Boswell (1918 - 2008) who was
instrumental in establishing the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet unit in Spokane
Washington in 1977 and for his outstanding service in the United States
Navy from WW II throughout the 1960’s.

This is an open trust.  Tax deductible donations and contributions to
this fund can be made through Fort Spokane Battalion.  A 501(c)3 - not
for profit organization, providing training in responsibility, accountability,
pride in themselves and their county; education in military history and
courtesies; community service opportunities; general unit and color
guard performances in various public parades and events as well as
various military protocols to young Americans ages 10 – 18.  Fort
Spokane Battalion is a wholly voluntary organization that allows the
ability for young people to make an informed decision should they
choose a career in the Armed Services of the United States, but are
under no obligation to do so – all in the comfort of a Drug and Violence
Free environment.

Lou Boswell was born in 1918 and joined the United States Navy as a
Yeoman during WW II, eventually achieving the rank of Chief Yeoman
(E-7) while on active duty.  After WW II, he transferred to the US Naval
Reserves which at the time was located at Lewis and Clark High School
in 1945.  When the United States Navy acquired the old US Army
Baxter Hospital site in 1948, Chief Boswell transferred to 5101 N
Assembly, which was renamed the United States Navy and Marine
Corp Reserve Center.  Chief Boswell promoted to Senior Chief and
then became one of the first to be promoted to Master Chief Yeoman
when the E-9 rank was established in 1958.  He continued over the
next twenty years, in the 60s drilling on Wednesday evenings with the
13-6L group as the senior enlisted and head of the administration unit
then transferred to SacLant unit until 1978.

In 1977, he and his wife Eleanor became active members of the United
States Navy League Council, which sponsors U.S. Naval Sea Cadet
units within their jurisdiction and became the Navy League’s
representative to the Sea Cadet Unit of Spokane, since renamed Fort
Spokane Battalion.  He thoroughly enjoyed his time as representative
watching the cadets grow in their trainings and becoming future U.S.
Navy candidates.

Upon his passing, his family submitted a donation in his name and it is
with great honor and respect that we establish the Master Chief Lou
Boswell Trust in order to promote the further training opportunities for
our  cadets and to continue to provide well rounded training
opportunities for many years to come.
